Yesterday, we sleep in the wild, since we didn't book any accommodation. Original schedule should be in Monterey Bay by nightfall, but SF is just too fun, so we stay longer in SF... And to save money, no choice, have to sleep in the car. We even bring along sleeping bag as blanket... We went to the beach, and there are groups of people on the beach, burning Christmas trees... for warmth or just for fun? The smoke from the burning is bad... but it is nice to see the glow of the fire, illuminate the night sky... We try to sleep in the car, a bit cold at times, but after a getting use to, it is still not bad. We are awaken by the street cleaning patrol, asking us to leave, as it is street cleaning soon at 6am... So lucky for us, have to leave and find another place. Found another nice place to sleep, don't know where we are, but it is windy and quiet. So sleep we do, and it is a good rest for both of us, before we continue our roadtrip down south.
So we have to make up for lost time, chop chop drive to Monterey.
Along the way, came across many small towns. So decide to check one of the town out. They have a beach to themselves, and the houses are very unique. Just look at the one below, very special house... Looks mystic and Greek, using glass and with a goddess on the roof. We don't find this in Singapore...
This sheep is trying to scratch herself using the concrete block, maybe we can help her do it :)
A nice stop-point for lunch and toilet break, in the wild :) Don't expect to find a toilet in this wilderness, only at selected locations... But who knows where? Cool wind, waves splashing onto shore and just plain nature...
I think someone died here... Hope it is not a fall off the side into the sea, long way down...
That's Brownie, pumping gas and cleaning the windows...
See the Monterey sign, it is not far away now...
Sandy coastline, yet there are many colorful hardy plants growing. Nice break from the white sand.
Monterey Bay... we are here! Another Fisherman's Wharf... Really, it is everywhere.
We are really rotting in Monterey, just stare at the wave, enjoying the sun and wind. Time to move on to Big Sur... Gas is expensive in Big Sur, in fact, the most expensive place in California. Lucky already top-up :)
These people must really like the ocean to live so near to the coast, and so far from civilization. It is nice to wake up to such nice sceneries everyday. But the postman must be having a tough time to deliver post to them...
Pretty late, and dangerous to drive at night in Big Sur, since no streetlamps... So better to find a place to sleep and rest for the day. This is just one of the many inns and campgrounds in Big Sur, that cater to the many tourists, driving along Pacific Coast Highway 1 everyday.
They have inns, motels, campground and tents. Too cold to stay in campground, but tent sounds interesting. So we make our payment at the main office, and drive down to the Big Sur river, where the tents are... among the tall Sycamore trees... Remind me of the song "Colors of the Wind" - '...How high does the sycamore grows. If you cut it down, then you'll never know...'
We decide to do some discovery ourselves, before the sun sets. That's Big Sur river below... as we cross the bridge to the other side of the river.
Mountain lions roam in these hills. You just don't know when you will meet one :) I hope not...

That's our tent behind Winnie... At least tonight can have a good night sleep :)
