After a fun night on the Strip, we are tired cos we sleep late... But still have to go on to the next destination on our itinerary... Grand Canyon. To admire the work of erosion in one of the world's deepest canyon.
But first, we reach Hover Dam, as we drive towards Grand Canyon. Hover Dam supplies ~20%
of the electricity for the neon lights and slots machines in the casinos... Lake Mead is a reservoir formed by Hover Dam on the Colorado River. Without Hover Dam, Las Vegas will be a ghost town. We have to go past a security checkpoint before reaching the Dam, so there is a small jam, as everyone has to slow down. Luckily, the security didn't stop us...
Soon, we see the high tension transmission towers, most probably from Hover to Las Vegas.
And they are building a new freeway bypass that bypass Hover Dam, good news for people like us who just wants to get to Grand Canyon without going through Hover. But this bypass will take some time... who knows when.
Another long 5 hours of drive, and more countryside view... Nothing to see, except shrubs and sand... The mountain keeps shifting as we are driving towards it, but it looks still far away.
As we drive across to the State of Arizona, notice that the weather is colder, and see signs of snow on the road. At last we are not seeing shrubs and sand, but snow!! Real snow... We just cannot resist stopping the car on the shoulder and take some photos. Another car also stop after seeing us :)
Snow,
We get energised seeing snow, and soon we reach the boundary of Grand Canyon, and the nearby town, Williams.
After sunset, we check into Yavapai Lodge, our pit-stop for this leg of the roadtrip, and go about our dinner at the cafe inside...
