Griffith Observatory

Winnie & Brownie says:

We have long wanted to have our photo taken at the Hollywood Sign, but cannot seen to find the route to the sign... So today, since we are going to Griffith Observatory and see the Griffith Lights Parade, might as well give 1 more try, to see if we can find the route up to Hollywood Sign.

We start early, go to Griffith Observatory to see at the stars and solar exhibits... Griffith Observatory is at the top of the Griffith Hill, and when we reach there, a lot of visitors are already there.

See the view of Hollywood Sign from Griffith Observatory in the far far background...

This is a very cool exhibit, a pendulum swings in the dead center, and as Earth rotates, it knocks down pegs to measure the rotation of the Earth. Don't know how they do this, man!!

Who is this guy, with Winnie??
Looks like California is a hot target for meteorite. The red dots are previous meteorite sites, and most are in the desert area, near Death Valley & Joshua National Park... LA is just south-west of these sites...

View of LA, as we get to the top level of the Observatory. The big telescope is open to the public today to view the stars, but from 7pm onwards, so we will not be around, since we will be watching the lighting parade then... We even pack our sandwiches, so we can take our sweet time, looking around...

See the Hollywood Sign, now a lot bigger... Cos we finally find the way up to the Sign!! Not easy to find, there is no visible sign to guide the visitors. There is even a sign as we drive up the hill that says, there is no road leading to the Sign... So misleading!! Anyway, we just drive up-hill and up-hill, and we are rewarded when we come to a gate that says, Welcome to Hollywood Sign... Okie, no welcome, but it says Hollywood Sign :) The road up is very narrow, and bumpy... Dangerous in raining or dark weather!! Save the location in the GPS, so can find the way up again...
This is where everyone park their cars, off the road...
And there is even a horse ranch for those who don't want to walk, to ride a horse to the Sign...
We didn't walk all the way to the Sign, as it is pretty cold and dry, and we are already panting when we walk the slope up to the viewing point. Next time when it is warmer :)

After walking around and enjoying the view of Holloywood, from up here, almost time for the Lighting Parade. Better to reach earlier, as it is drive-through... In case traffic jam... So it's time for dinner. And we try out In-N-Out burger, as recommended by Eileen. Only 3 burgers to choose from: double-double, cheeseburger and hamburger. No need to think much what to eat, but can request what to put in the burger (such as cheese, onion, tomato, etc)... And they make it fresh for you on the spot... Definitely better than the burgers from those burger giants - McDonald and Burger King.

Indeed, when we reach Griffith Park for the parade, there is already a line of cars, driving slowly to the parade. Luckily, it is a drive-through, the weather is cold and windy. I will not want to be out in the cold... Enjoy the clips :)
