Turnip Egg

Winnie says:

We just come back from Walmart. We are eating home-cooked porridge with fried turnip eggs with added sugar. It is a very delicious meal though a simple one.

Las Vegas-Grand Canyon Roadtrip - Day 3

Winnie & Brownie says:

3rd day of our roadtrip, we have to checkout today, and go back to Las Vegas, and to Los Angeles... But before that, we go around Grand Canyon for one last look around... We will be back during summer holidays when it is warmer.

Morning dew just forms snow on our car, and fascinatingly, forms "Jacelyn"!!

Throwing snow into the air...

Deer deer... our first glimpse of the reindeer...

Mules are used to carry people to the bottom of the Canyon, to Colorado river... But now is too cold to do this. We will take mule during summer breaks.

That is the mule, a cross-breed between horse and donkey. And he pee and poo for us :)

Bright Angel Trail, one of the many trails you can take to go down to the base of Grand Canyon...

But very slippery with snow, one wrong step, and you will go down the edge... very dangerous and scary!!

We didn't take the mule ride, so we go into the store and get a mule for Winnie, her name "Lu-Lu".

As we decide to drive out of the park, we see everyone parking by the kerb. And we see a family of 4 deers, taking a morning walk and eating grass... Photo-taking time :)

Outside of Grand Canyon National Park is Yabba Dabba-Doo homeland... home of Fred Flinstone's and family.

Wilma... Fred's wife

Dino, their pet dinosaur...

And of course, we have lunch at Fred, share a fish-&-chip... they have 10cents coffee, a real deal...

Cosy & warm fire...

Along the same freeway towards Williams, we driveby Kaibab National Forest, and seeing that there is a lake as well, we decide to dropby... This campground is not open in winter and the gates will be closed by sunset, but we still have plenty of time and sunshine left... The roads are full of snow, and we have to drive slowly to see where is the road and where is the grass (which of course is covered by snow). Definitely not want to be here when it is dark.

Luckily got some tire tracks, so can follow. Otherwise don't know where to go also...

The tire tracks almost gone...

Danger notice for anglers...

Finally, we come to the lake, partially frozen due to the coldness... but the center of the lake is still water... And there is an angler, on the edge of the lake, fishing i guess...

Winnie is standing on the edge of the lake, but it is frozen so looks just like any ground. But don't be bluff by the appearance... it is still water under the ice... You don't want to be wet in this cold weather...

Winnie's impression :)

I don't know what is so special about this historic route 66, but seems to see this sign almost everywhere. Even in LA??

Nice scene, golden mountain as the sun sets...

Hover Dam, again, at night...

Finally, we reach Las Vegas at night, after another 5 hours drive from Grand Canyon... So we continue on our unfinished Las Vegas walk...

Sharks at Mandalay Bay...

MGM Grand & its lions...

A total of 18 lions work on shifts to entertain the tourists and casino players at this habitat... And we just miss the daily feeding time. So the lions look happy and contented and just lying around until 10pm, when they knock off and go back home... somewhere nearby we are told.

Just as we are going back to our car, and to LA, we see a feet, dangling over a closed car boot... We thought at first, we see a crime scene, afterall this is Sin City. But looking closely, it is a fake leg... :)
This brings an end to our excited roadtrip to Las Vegas and Grand Canyon!!
